This disc will include several hitherto unrecorded chamber works by John Pickard, including the Sonata for Violin and Piano, ‘Insomnia’ for violin and piano, and ‘Chaconne’ for solo viola. The recording sessions took place on 9 and 10 January 2012 at St George’s Bristol; and the CD is scheduled for release in June this year.

Vaughan Williams, Walford Davies and Holst: Works for Violin and Piano

Following their previous two critically acclaimed recordings for EM Records, Rupert Marshall-Luck and Matthew Rickard will present on disc a programme of works by three contemporaneous composers. The Sonata in E-flat major by Walford Davies is his first in this genre and, like the Sonata in A major (recorded on EMR CD001), has been edited by Marshall-Luck from the autograph manuscript sources held at the Royal College of Music. The recording sessions will take place in April 2012 at Wyastone Concert Hall and the CD will be launched at the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts in June.
